Barcelona Science Park

The Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB) is a cornerstone of the innovation system developed by the University of Barcelona. The convergence of multidisciplinary research groups from public and private sectors and a wide range of state-of-the-art technological facilities make the PCB a pioneering point of reference in the promotion of knowledge and technology transfer and the setting up of new technology-based companies. The PCB hosts twenty companies, three public research centres and a bioincubator for technology-based companies, all of which are involved in cutting-edge basic and applied research. These activities are located in a 24 000 m2 laboratory building which includes, in addition to core services, scientific and technical platforms such as fine and combinatorial chemistry, transcriptomics, proteomics, high through-put crystallography, biocomputing, NMR and nanotechnology. The principal focus of the international multidisciplinary research groups and companies within the Park is biomedical: from medicinal chemistry to nanobioengineering, through structural and cellular biology. On-site research in human and social sciences on new knowledge and market contexts complements the experimental activity. This strategy of open priority enables the PCB to remain at the forefront of new technology and to respond to the economic cycles characteristic of technological and advanced sectors.
